The Burghead Pictish Ring is a remarkable 1,000-year-old medieval artifact unearthed at the Burghead Fort in Moray, Scotland.

Discovered by a volunteer archaeologist John Ralph, a former engineer and University of Aberdeen graduate. Ralph, who describes himself as an enthusiastic amateur," made the discovery during an excavation led by the University of Aberdeen, under the guidance of Professor Gordon Noble.

The kite-shaped ring features a polished garnet or red glass center, indicating it belonged to someone of high status.

The discovery of this relic offers a unique, tangible glimpse into the sophisticated metalwork and cultural reach of the ancient Picts.

Because it is a key piece of early medieval Scottish history, it is undergoing detailed conservation and post-excavation analysis by experts at the National Museums Scotland and is not currently on show.

I am indebted to Professor Gordon Noble who owns this incredible artefact for sending me the original drawings and measurements, which I kept exactly the same as the original ring.

I did use a little artistic licence imagining what it would have looked like when it was originally created.

Inspired by Pictish carvings and the Golspie Pictish pin which shows a mans head terminal.

Available in recycled eco silver with a garnet, for gold and other gemstones please enquire.
