Cairngorm
"Cairngorm" is smoky quartz from Scotland, originally mined in the Cairngorm mountains in the Victorian era and also found in river beds in and around the Cairngorm mountains. Now the name "Cairngorm" is applied to smoky quartz from any Scottish location. These stones have been collected from the mountains around the Killin area in Perthshire. From this locality, the cairngorm is rarely found as crystals it occurs as "lenses" or "pods" in the rock. The stones are then cut for brilliance, and are set in gold to individual designs.
